When I had my first Pilates Lessons I was amazed how strong and at the same time light my whole body got. Pilates gives me the tools to move myself in an elegant and powerful way through daily life. Through activating the deep layers of muscles, through alongating the outer muscles and strengthening the core muscles I learned again to move light and elegant through this material world.
Most of the time, we are not aware of the constant stream of information between brain, muscles and nerves that are the base of this complex machinery - under normal condition we don’t need to. However, to keep our body healthy and strong it is very important, to know how your body works, and how to give the muscles the correct orders to control their actions. Training this awareness in a healthy condition gives us the power in case of emergency (injury, pain, bad posture ect.) to react immediately and send the right information in order to recover the original, healthy state.
Joseph Pilates, who lived between 1880 and 1967 developed a technique that combines slow, controlled movements with a specific breath. It not only empowers the diaphragm but also obliges the inner, usually weaker muscles, to work and enhance their potential. The abdominals are used in almost every exercise and give the lumbar region the neccesary support to maintain the weight of the whole upper body without pain.
Within a few sessions, our body gets strong and refined from the inside to the outside. A controlled breath empowers the core muscles and we gain a strong, healthy spine which carries us powerfully and healthy through daily challenges.
With this conscious communication between mind and body, as well as with controlled movements, we walk through life with a strong, pain free body and feeling light and confident.
